Many organizations overlook traffic-filtering routers as part of their security policy, but in doing so they have a gap in their security posture. Even if all of the firewalls are in place and working as they should, if a router is improperly configured, the entire network could be exposed. For a complete view of the security policy, organizations should also consider analyzing their routers, which oftentimes act just like a firewall.
