Reflecting on AlgoSummit Americas 2019

AlgoSummit Americas has concluded. It was great to meet our customers and channel partners at AlgoSec’s largest event in North America

The backdrop for this year’s AlgoSummit Americas was Dallas, the commercial and cultural hub of north Texas. It’s a city with a rich technological history – the world’s first microchip was designed at Texas Instruments’ in Dallas in 1958 – so it was a fitting place for us to present our vision for the future of network security management to customers and partners, sharing perspectives on the challenges we foresee in the next decade, and how to overcome them.

This year’s AlgoSummit Americas was one of our biggest yet with over 80 participants joining us over the four days. It featured three tracks; Channel Forum, User Forum and Training Forum. Attendees had the opportunity to learn how their peers are addressing key business and technical challenges, discuss the latest industry trends and best practices in security policy management, learn how to promote AlgoSec’s suite and hear about the company’s roadmap and vision. It also gave attendees a platform to provide constructive feedback to inform future development and learn tips and tricks on how to obtain more value from their investment in AlgoSec. Channel forum

The event began with our Channel Forum, which offered resellers in the Americas an update into AlgoSec’s partner program and its benefits. The channel team offered tailored sales and marketing sessions based on the program and its resources to help partners develop initiatives that drive awareness and sales pipeline development with both new and existing customers.

Cloud security workshop

We also completed a two- and half-hour cloud security workshop with 26 participants, covering who the different stakeholders are and their responsibilities in managing security in the cloud, the challenges of stretching on-premise security policies to extended cloud deployments and discuss the native cloud security controls available today. Participants learnt how to obtain full visibility of the network across the entire estate; improve cloud-security posture to avoid breaches; achieve compliance assurance and audit readiness; secure change management at the speed of cloud deployment and reduce manual labor, errors and associated risks and costs.

AlgoSec user forum

The user forum provided customer delegates from across the Americas with first-hand access to AlgoSec’s product roadmap and vision though a series of sessions with executives and product and technology staff over the two days. The forum also featured presentations from leading enterprises, describing the security policy management challenges they faced and how they addressed them using AlgoSec solutions.

Training forum

For the 7th year running we hosted a training forum, offering delegates an opportunity to complete AlgoSec training courses, get certified in a collaborative environment, and discuss best practices as well as tips and tricks with AlgoSec experts. It gave customers the opportunity to get the most out of their AlgoSec implementation, while also becoming a certified AlgoSec solution engineer. This year saw an increase in participants with 56 taking part in a series of sessions on AlgoSec Firewall Analyzer and FireFlow Administrator, FireFlow Expert, Firewall Analyzer Expert and Professional Services Master Training.

Shared customer experiences

While at the summit, attendees had an opportunity to hear from two AlgoSec customers, who shared their individual challenges and successes. One customer was the Enterprise Security Analyst (Network Security) at a leading utility company. He explained how the company was initiating a three-year IT network segmentation project triple the size of their current deployment of firewalls.

As a result, they began looking for a solution that would assist the network and security teams with the management of these firewalls and overall network. They embarked on a proof of concept project with AlgoSec, setting up Firewall Analyzer and FireFlow to monitor the highest traffic firewalls and three core routers. They were able to build out a network map, perform analytics and traffic simulations; all which AlgoSec excelled at.

Delegates also heard from the Information Security Manager at a multinational telecommunications company. He presented the challenges and complexity of the project, and the AlgoSec solutions they selected to help. He also explained why they specifically selected AlgoSec, and the steps taken to implement the project and address these challenges. He also shared best practices and recommendations for companies undergoing a similar project.

Inaugural Customer Advisory Board

This year we hosted our inaugural AlgoSummit Customer Advisory Board, which was a fantastic opportunity to present shared experiences and discuss AlgoSec’s vision and roadmap for the future. Senior IT and network security officials from top enterprises in transport, logistics, energy, SaaS and financial services joined the AlgoSec team to give their feedback on market developments, sales and technology strategies, creating a lively and positive discussion.

Social networking

We believe fostering meaningful relationships with our partners and customers is important. That is why we invited our delegates to join us at two evening events, including the AlgoSummit Night Out held at the top of the Reunion Tower set against the sunset backdrop of Dallas, and our Channel Partner appreciation event at AT&T Stadium, where eight of our top partners joined us to watch the Dallas Cowboys defeat the Philadelphia Eagles.

The real value that AlgoSummit creates is the opportunity to learn from each other by sharing cyber-security and network management perspectives and experience in-person. This helps to grow the AlgoSec knowledge pool and trigger fresh ideas to help tackle the security management challenges we face.
